Oswald was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He has worked in the woodworking industry but has also worked in other fields before he retired in 2013. When woodworking was not his 9-5 job, he was still working with wood. He loved taking an idea and making it real. Wood was the medium that allowed him to do this. He started making furniture for family members when he was in his mid-20’s. Although he was self-taught in woodworking, he learned by observation the “old way” of making something that was beautiful and would still stand the test of time. He understood the beauty of wood so he listened and let the wood speak to him. It was during Covid that he started making Boxes. He uses exotic woods like Birds Eye Maple, Cherry, Black Walnut and Padauk because of their warmth and different grain variations. He often hand-carves the lids of his boxes and sometimes uses polished stones and even silver jewellery to create a one-of-kind knob. Each box is finished with polymerized Tung oil, with a minimum of 4-6 sanding and oiling applications. He has lived and worked in Toronto, Ontario (where he became a Canadian citizen) and Vancouver, BC. He moved to Saint John in 2026 with his wife whose family is from Saint John.
